Barcelona Trip

No club activity this weekend as 37 Annaghdown parish and club men have travelled to Barcelona. Enjoy the weekend lads and hopefully ye might return inspired by the great Ronaldino.

You'll like this one... Its a Brazilian national team practice, Robinho (Real Madrid) is playing with Roberto Carlos doing tricks with the ball, he is pretty good, gets cocky and challenges Ronaldinho. The guy comes and does about 10 seconds of impossible tricks, Robinho tries to repeat his moves and in the end tells the camera that by 2006 he will be able todo it...

U21 Fooballers Out

Annaghdown 2-5 Corofin 1-13
In perfect conditions played in Caherlistrane today, a good crowd turned out to watch our U21's lose to our near neighbours Corofin. The first half was very tight and Corofin opened the scoring before Brendan Dooley leveled the game after 5mins. Corofin went 3-1 up but Frankie Burke then opened his account with a good point from play. Corofin then added 2 more points before a Frankie Burke shot at goal was blocked only for Mathius Coleman to finish the rebound to the net. Corofin added another point and Darren Newell leveled the score just before the break. The match then was stopped for a bizzare moment when the referee Gerry Guinan accidently ran into an Annaghdown player and was left stretched on the ground to the amussment of the fans. He was helped up and was winded thus he barely had a breath to blow the whistle for half time!
Second half started with Corofin storming to a 5 point lead, scoring a goal after 2mins. Annaghdown lost all their first half composure but battled back into the game, lead by Niall Coleman who fielded alot of ball. Frankie Burke scored our first point of the 2nd half after 15mins to leave the score Annaghdown 1-4 Corofin 1-10. Frankie then converted a penaly and added a free to leave a goal between the teams with a few minutes to go but no more scores game for Annaghdown and Corofin ended the game of with a couple of points.
Team: Padraic Mannion, Ronan Creaven, Shane Collier, Fergal Doherty, David Rafftery, Anthony Pender, Fergal Coleman, Niall Coleman, Paul Marley, Raymond Newell, Brendan Dooley(1pt), Darren Newell(1pt), Mathius Coleman(1 goal), Wesley Fallon and Frankie Burke(1-3) Subs used Ger Rafftery for Ray Newell & Tom Burke(Cregg) for Darren Newell.

U21 footballers cruise to victory

Annaghdown 2-12 Kilkerrin Clonberne 0-03
This morning in Caherlistrane our U21 footballers got their campaign of to a great start, but Kilkerrin were short a number of quality players so no-one will get too carried away with the result as we will be meeting quality opposition in terms of Corofin in the next round. Frankie Burke started scoring with a point from a free and Brendan Dooley soon added one from play. Frankie hit another free before the one way traffic started with points coming from Ray & Darren Newell, Frankie and a great move ending in a goal for Brendan Dooley. Paul Marley then added another point before the break.
The second half got of to the same pattern with our midfield on top and Wesley Fallon hit a good goal with more points from Mathius & Nial Coleman. It was a very good team performance with every line on top.
Team: Padraic Mannion, John O'Neill, Shane Collier, Fergal Doherty, David Rafftery, Anthony Pender, Fergal Coleman, Niall Coleman(1pt), Paul Marley(1pt), Raymond Newell(2pts(1 free)), Brendan Dooley(1-1), Darren Newell(2pts), Mathius Coleman(1pt), Wesley Fallon(1 goal) and Frankie Burke(4pts (3frees)). U21 Hurlers Championship Run Ends

Annaghdown 2-4 Padraic Pearses 1-12
In a tough physical game played in Kenny Park Athenry today our U21 hurlers met a better and superior hurling team in Padraic Pearses. Pearses tore into the game and went 1-3 to no score up after 10mins but Joe Fahey pounced to score a tonic goal. Adrian Murphy then scored a point from a free after 15 mins and on the 20th minute Rob Mulryan had shot blocked by the keeper & corner back only for the sliotar to roll over the line for our second goal, to put Annaghdown a point up. However Pearses came good again and three unanwsered points before half time left the score at the break Annaghdown 2-1 Padraic Pearses 1-6.
On the resumption Annaghdown tore into the game and Niall Coleman hit a sweet point after alot of hard work to leave the minimum between the teams. This is how it stood for the next 15 mins with the Annaghdown defense on top but the scores never materialised up front. Pearses then scored a point before Con Butler scored a long range free. Annaghdown could never get the equaliser and Pearses found their shooting boots(hurls) in the last 5mins. Con Butler tapped over our final point from a free but Pearses held out to win by five points. It was a very disappointing end to a great run in this years championship and the Flyer will have many sleepless nights wondering where it all went wrong. Fair play to the management team of Martin"FLYER"Hession, Gerry Doherty & Eoghan Murtagh and also the panel of players as they gave it 100% this year and were a joy to watch.
Team: Brain Lohan, John O'Neill, Niall O'Keeffe, Mathius Coleman, Fergal Doherty, Ronnie Creaven, Fergal Coleman, Niall Coleman(1pt), Thomas Burke(Cregg), Adrian Murphy(1pt free), Ronnie Newell(Capt.), Con Butler(2pts frees), Joe Fahey( 1 goal), Rob Mulryan(1 goal) & Liam Hession. Subs used Frankie Burke and Paul Walsh.

Senior Footballers Defeated

Annaghdown 0-12 Kilkerrin/Clonberne 2-10.
Annaghdown's disastrous year continued today in Clonberne when they got of to the worst possible start, conceding a goal after 2 minutes. Mike Melia kicked our first score from a free. Johnny Murphy kicked a good point from play with Mike Melia adding another free and just before the break Darren Newell scored a good point from the wing to leave the score at the break Kilkerrin/Clonberne 1-6 Annaghdown 4pts.
Playing with the elements in the second half Annaghdown hit 7 unanswered points from play through Frankie Burke 2, Ronnie Leonard, Johnny Murphy, Matt Duggan, Anthony Pender and Alan Kavanagh to go a point up and look good for victory but a debatable penatly decision swung the game for Kilkerrin/Clonberne and they took full advange to run out easy victors in an ill tempered second half.
Team Cathal Gaffney, Vinnie Small, Adrian Fitzpatrick, Martin O'Neill, Alan Kavanagh(1pt), Ronnie Leonard(1pt), Anthony Pender(1pt), Wesley Fallon, Matt Duggan(1pt), Brendan Dooley, Johnny Murphy(2pts), Mike Melia(3 frees), Darren Newell(1pt) Morgan duggan and Frankie Burke(2pts, 1 free).Subs used Brain Qualter and Paul Creaven
