Junior C Hurlers into Semi Finals

Junior C Hurling 1/4 Final
Annaghdown 2-10 Athenry 1-06
Played in Athenry on Sunday evening Annaghdown advance to the semi finals of this competition after a hard fought victory. Athenry were a tough outfit & never gave up but great defending from all the Annaghdown backs and superb finishing from the stick of Ciaran O'Connor insured a good victory. Half time score was Annaghdown 1-4 Athenry 1pt with Tom Burke chipping with with a goal & a point after being switched from midfield to corner forward. Annghdown started the second half well with O'Connor stiking some good frees but a tonic goal for Athenry put Annaghdown on the back foot. Sure enough O'Connor the hero of the hour collected a ball soon after and crashed home a cracker to give the team some breathing space.
Team was: Padjoe Fahy, Eoin Murtagh, Kenny Leonard, Marc Connaughton, Reggie Burke, Carl Leonard, John King, Viv Silke, Thomas Burke(Capt.)(1-1), Rob Mulryan, Pa Murphy, Ciaran OConnor(1-9 - 7 frees), Aidan Connaughton, Christy Burke & Ronnie Newell. Another League Defeat.....

Senior Football Div.1A League
Killererin 0-16 Annaghdown 1-08
In greasy conditions on a good Killererin pitch Annaghdown played well & matched Killererin for 40mins of this game. Annaghdown went into an early 3pt lead but Killererin got level after 15mins. Again Annaghdown went 6-4 ahead but Killererin engineered a few frees to have the match all square 7pts each @ half time. After the break Annaghdown scored a brilliant goal through Frankie Burke after Naill Coleman set him up. Killererin kept in touch with frees from Padraic Joyce but Annaghdown replied with a free from Frankie Burke which was to be their last score of the game. For the last 20mins Killererin wiped Annaghdown & only for an alert Shane Collier when he stopped a 3 on 1 attack and a brilliant Padraic Mannion save from a 1 on 1 with Nicky Joyce the defeat would have been greater.
Team was: Padraic Mannion, Shane Collier, Adrain Fitzpatrick, Martin O'Neill, Brian Qualter, Paul Creaven, Anthony Pender, Wesley Fallon, Kevin Keane(Capt.), Joseph Farragher, Niall Coleman(1pt), Morgan Duggan, Mathias Coleman, Brendan Dooley(1pt) & Frankie Burke(1-6, 4 frees). Subs used: Ronnie Leonard, Shane Kavanagh & Fergal Doherty.

Another Poor League Performance

Senior Football Div. 1A League
Annaghdown 0-08 Caltra 0-9
Poor finishing with poor conditions(very heavy rain showers) didn't help Annaghdown in this home game. Annaghdown dominated this game but poor decision making on the ball and poor finishing cost the team the points. Annaghdown stormed into the game from the throw in going 5pts to 1pt ahead after 20mins playing aginst the wind but thats when the scores dried up. Caltra scraped back into the game to be a point down @ the break. Half time score was Annaghdon 5pts Caltra 4pts.
Annaghdown started the 2nd half well but poor finishing had Caltra still in the game and sure enough Mike Meehan started to kick scores which was the difference. Alot of forward work needs to be done for championship..
Team was: Padraic Mannion, Shane Collier, Adrain Fitzpatrick, Martin O'Neill, Brain Qualter, Paul Creaven, Anthony Pender, Niall Coleman(1pt), Wesley Fallon, Mathias Coleman, Damien Burke(Capt.)(4pts-3 frees), Morgan Duggan, Joseph Farragher, Brendan Dooley & Frankie Burke(3pts- 1 free). Subs used: Fergal Doherty, Alan Kavangh & Morgan Duggan.
